Job summary

Pediatric Neurologist - Medical University of South Carolina -Charleston

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), Department of Pediatrics is seeking a Pediatric Neurologist/Epileptologist to join the Division of Pediatric Neurology in coastal Charleston, South Carolina. This position offers an exciting opportunity to help expand access to high-quality pediatric neurological care across the Charleston region while contributing to the growth of a dynamic and collaborative academic program.

About MUSC's Division of Pediatric Neurology:

The division is home to a Pediatric Level IV Epilepsy Center, accredited by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC), providing the highest level of comprehensive epilepsy care available to children. The multidisciplinary team is dedicated to maintaining strong partnerships with referring physicians to ensure seamless, long-term care for every patient. The division offers a full spectrum of specialized services, including speech-language pathology, neuropsychology, inpatient and outpatient video EEG monitoring, advanced diagnostic evaluations, and comprehensive epilepsy management. Patients benefit from a wide range of treatment options, including medical therapies, epilepsy surgery, and medical nutrition therapy through a dedicated ketogenic diet program.

MUSC Children's Hospital has consistently been the only institution in South Carolina to be ranked among U.S. News & World Report's edition of "America's Best Children's Hospitals." MUSC is the only quaternary academic medical center in the state of South Carolina and is expanding rapidly. Many new opportunities are developing with the opening of the new MUSC Children's Pediatric Subspecialty R. Keith Summey Medical Pavilion, which offers comprehensive outpatient pediatric only services including specialty clinics, outpatient surgery, diagnostic imaging, infusion procedures, and support services such as lab and pharmacy. The new Shawn Jenkins Children's Hospital that opened in February 2020, offers state of the art tertiary and quaternary services.

Required Qualifications:
  • Board Certified or Eligible by the ABPN
  • Interest/experience in neuromuscular and/or neuroimmunology disorders is welcomed
  • Commitment to MUSC's educational missions
Position Highlights:
  • Join a pediatric neurology faculty supported by 4 nurse practitioners and physician assistants
  • Practice pediatric neurology with opportunities to teach and pursue research
  • Work 4 days per week in an outpatient clinic, typically 8 am to 5 pm
  • See approximately 12 pediatric neurology patients per day with defined visit times
  • Share inpatient pediatric neurology service weeks every 5 to 6 weeks
  • Our Comprehensive Epilepsy Center is designated a Level IV epilepsy center, the highest designation offered by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers
  • Accredited Neurophysiology Lab offers a complete combination of EEG, EMG, Intraoperative Monitoring, and Intracranial/Extracranial Vascular Imaging, in conjunction with our Level IV Epilepsy Center.
  • Fantastic specialty and diagnostic services such as speech language pathology, neuropsychology, and inpatient and outpatient video EEG monitoring
  • Teach in a 5-year ACGME-accredited Child Neurology Residency Program
  • EPIC medical record system
