Job summary

UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh invites applications for a Sr. Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Laboratory Scientist in the Microbiology Laboratory. The first shift runs 7:00 a.m.

– 3:30 p.m. with rotating weekends and holidays, and opportunities for professional growth in a leading pediatric setting. The role focuses on complex microbiology testing for pediatric patients, emphasizing accuracy, collaboration, and clinical excellence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree with MLS program completed.
• ASCP or equivalent certification preferred for some tracks.
• MLS/MLT experience in a clinical laboratory required or preferred depending on title.
• Three years’ clinical lab experience in absence of certification required for some roles.

Responsibilities

• Follow procedures for collection and processing of specimens for analysis.
• Perform qualitative and quantitative analyses with precision and timeliness.
• Recognize and act on critical or abnormal test results per protocols.
• Operate, maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment and controls.
• Maintain knowledge of techniques, instruments, and their limitations.
• Contribute to test development and method evaluation.
• Perform High Complexity Testing and supervise as delegated.
• Train new staff and orient students and residents as assigned.
