Job description

Job Description:

This position is responsible for providing therapeutic medical massage to patients/clients in outpatient setting as required by the plan of care. Care is provided within a multi-disciplinary team approach to wellness.

Essential Functions

  • Verifies medical records including the physician's orders for integrated medicine, which may include therapeutic massage, reviews their medical file for contraindications/precautions for treatment.

  • Collects medical history and general health and lifestyle information from patient

  • Works with each patient to develop a treatment plan and strategy based on their diagnoses as well as individual needs

  • Explains service and discusses individual treatment

  • Inspects area to be treated looking for edema, blisters, and/or rash, and if present, reports issues to physician/nurse before beginning treatment.

  • Provides prescribed treatments as determined by the patient's treatment plan

  • Observes and assesses patient for any unexpected or undesirable physical/emotional reactions.

  • When necessary, suspends treatment, and provides appropriate intervention. Reports adverse reactions to physician/nurse as indicated.

  • Completes charting and case coordination with other health care professionals and physicians.

  • Helps to educate patients on post massage care plan.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Licensed in Massage Therapy (LMT) in the state of practice.

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

  • Training in Therapeutic Massage

  • Experience with Clinical Massage

  • Ability to work with deep pressure on request

  • Minimum two years’ experience in the delivery of massage therapy

  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a health care setting

  • Training in Neuromuscular Therapy, Myofascial Release, Active Release Technique (ART), Orthopedic Massage, Oncology Massage, Anatomy Trains, Reflexology, Stretching, Craniosacral Therapy (CST), Sports Massage, etc.

  • Member of American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) or Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals (ABMP)

  • Board Certification in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (BCTMB)

  • Continued Education Units in clinical topics

  • Capable of performing up to 6 massages daily

  • Cupping and scraping knowledge and experience

  • Expertise in Anatomy, physiology and muscle actions

Physical Requirements:

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.

  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.

  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.

  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.

  • Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)

  • May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.

  • For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.
