Job summary

Lightways Hospice is seeking a part-time Licensed Massage Therapist to provide massage therapy to pediatric patients in our northern region. The role requires flexibility and travel to patient locations, with an estimated 20 hours per week and availability Tuesday mornings and weekday afternoons or early evenings.

Responsibilities include assessing patients, designing care plans with the interdisciplinary team, documenting visits, and maintaining a reliable caseload.

Qualifications

• Pediatric experience preferred.
• Bi-lingual preferred.
• Completed massage therapy program required.
• Illinois LMT license required.
• Maintain licensure with CEUs per IDFPR.
• One year massage therapy experience preferred.
• Lymphatic drainage certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assess pediatric palliative and hospice patients before visits.
• Design care plans with interdisciplinary team members.
• Explain procedures and apply massage techniques per patient needs.
• Document visits and interactions per guidelines and policies.
• Maintain caseload and schedule visits as needed.
• Attend IDT meetings and collaborate with IDT members.
• Provide massage therapy ethically, safely, and effectively.

About Lightways Hospice

Founded in 1982 as Joliet Area Community Hospice, Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Care is an independent, nonprofit healthcare provider licensed in 11 counties in northwest Illinois. We provide exceptional serious illness care, hospice care and grief support for adults and children.

The majority of our direct patient care is in the field with Lightways team members providing care in the home, nursing facility or assisted living facility. We also have a 24-bed inpatient unit in Joliet. Non-clinical staff are based out of our Joliet administrative offices.

Massage Therapist:

Provides massage therapy services to Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Care to our pediatric patients in our northern region. Role requires flexibility and travel to patient locations. Estimated 20 hours a week, needing availability on Tuesday mornings and weekday afternoons or early evenings.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess and evaluate pediatric palliative and hospice patients for massage therapy services, ascertaining any necessaryprecautions or contraindications prior to each visit.


• Design personalized care plans in collaboration with interdisciplinary team members
  that address needs based on assessment findings.


• Explain procedures thoroughly and apply techniques appropriate to patient needs and
  preferences, modifying approach based on patient response as necessary.


• Document all visits and interactions with patients and families according to established
  guidelines and policies.


• Maintain caseload, including scheduling visits and adhering to or adjusting visit
  frequency as needed per patient needs.


• Attend interdisciplinary team meetings (IDT) and collaborate with IDT members toascertain whether patients qualify for massage therapy.


• Conduct oneself in an authentic, ethical, accountable, and culturally sensitive manner by providing safe, appropriate, and effective massage therapy techniques.
  

Education/Experience:

• High school graduate or GED


• Pediatric Experience Preferred


• Bi-lingual preferred


• Successful completion of an approved massage therapy program.


• Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT) in Illinois.


• Maintains current with licensure by obtaining required Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) as defined by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).


• One (1) year experience as a massage therapist.


• Certification in manual lymphatic drainage techniques preferred.
