Job summary

Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago seeks a Pharmacy Technician to prepare parenteral injections, IV admixtures, and cytotoxic agents, with emphasis on aseptic technique and accuracy. The role includes dose calculations, cart processing, and participation in parenteral nutrition preparation.

Requires Illinois tech licensure or eligibility, PTCB, aseptic training, and hospital experience. Strong math and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Licensure as Registered Pharmacy Technician in Illinois or eligibility.
• PTCB certification.
• Two years of college with general mathematics preferred.
• Must complete in-house aseptic technique and cytotoxic handling certification.
• One year hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
• Good data entry and math skills; able to learn computer systems.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to work in team.

Responsibilities

• Prepares parenteral medications and large-volume IVs per labels following aseptic technique.
• Performs measurements and calculations for parenteral product preparation.
• Prepares parenteral antineoplastic medications; works quarterly in Hematology satellite.
• Cleans hoods and calibrates pumps per procedures.
• Stocks additives room; notes low stock items and notifies Purchasing.
• Maintains appearance of IV additive room.
• Trains technicians on aseptic techniques.
• Processes new medication orders and handles carts (fill/exchange/credit).
• Delivers pharmacy services with focus on innovation, service excellence and teamwork.
