Job summary

Shriners Children’s in Chicago seeks an Intensivist to lead and deliver critical care for infants, children, and adolescents in the PICU. You will provide advanced medical management, coordinate with subspecialists, and collaborate with families while contributing to teaching and research.

Required are an MD/DO, pediatrics residency and PCCM fellowship, board eligibility, active licensure, BLS and PALS, plus strong leadership and communication; expectation of teamwork and scholarly activity.

Qualifications

• MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
• ACGME pediatrics residency completed.
• Fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine completed.
• Board certification or eligibility in Pediatrics and PCCM.
• Active medical licensure eligibility in the state of practice; DEAN requirement.
• BLS for Healthcare Providers and PALS certification.
• Strong leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; teamwork with families and medical staff.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and manage acute and chronic critical illnesses in pediatric patients.
• Provide advanced life support including mechanical ventilation and ECMO.
• Perform critical procedures such as intubation, central line placement, arterial catheterization, and lumbar punctures.
• Coordinate with pediatric subspecialists, nurses, respiratory therapists, and other staff for comprehensive care.
• Collaborate with surgical teams to stabilize critically ill patients.
• Discuss diagnosis, treatment plans, and prognosis with families compassionately.
• Educate and mentor medical students, residents, and fellows.
• Participate in clinical research and quality improvement activities.
• Maintain accurate medical documentation and ensure policy compliance.
