Job summary

Software Placement Group, SPG in Mattoon, Illinois is seeking a Pediatric Hospitalist to join our inpatient pediatric service line. You will cover pediatric inpatients, newborn rounding, and Level II nursery neonatology support, with a ~5-on/10-off schedule.

The role requires an MD/DO, completed pediatrics residency (ACGME), and active Illinois license. Expected start date January 2027 with comprehensive benefits and a strong compensation package.

Qualifications

• MD or DO medical degree from an accredited school.
• Completed ACGME-accredited Pediatrics residency; Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Pediatrics or Pediatric Hospital Medicine.
• Active, unrestricted Illinois medical license or eligibility before start Date.
• NRP certification; DEA registration, CSR, and PALS are required or eligible.
• Strong comfort with neonatology, Level II nursery protocols, and high-risk deliveries.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct inpatient medical management for pediatric admissions, nursery care, and Level II neonatology patients.
• Conduct routine newborn exams and manage infants needing neonatology support.
• Attend high-risk deliveries and perform neonatal resuscitations as required.
• Provide pediatric consultations for the ED and surgical services.
• Stabilize acutely ill pediatric and neonatal patients and coordinate transfers to tertiary centers.
• Perform daily inpatient rounds, manage admissions/discharges, and ensure clear handoffs to outpatient pediatricians.
• Maintain electronic health record documentation and participate in quality and safety initiatives.

Overview

An established, physician-led healthcare organization in Central Illinois is seeking a Pediatric Hospitalist to join its inpatient pediatric service line in Mattoon, Illinois. This role offers an exceptional lifestyle schedule and delivers high-quality inpatient pediatric care within a supportive community setting, covering pediatric inpatients, well newborn rounding, and Level II nursery neonatology support.

What you'll do

• Provide direct inpatient medical management for pediatric admissions, nursery care, and Level II neonatology patients
• Conduct routine newborn examinations and manage specialized care for infants requiring neonatology support
• Attend high-risk deliveries and perform neonatal resuscitations as required by hospital and clinical protocols
• Provide pediatric consultations for the Emergency Department and surgical service lines
• Stabilize acute or critically ill pediatric and neonatal patients, coordinating transfers to tertiary pediatric medical centers when appropriate
• Perform daily inpatient rounds, manage admissions and discharges, and ensure clear handoffs to outpatient primary care pediatricians
• Maintain accurate electronic health record documentation and participate in clinical quality and safety initiatives

Required qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited US medical school or international equivalent (MD or DO)
• Successfully completed an ACGME-accredited Pediatrics residency; Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Pediatrics or Pediatric Hospital Medicine
• Active, unrestricted Illinois medical license (or eligible for state licensure prior to start)
• Active Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required; active DEA registration, Illinois Controlled Substance License (CSR), and PALS
• Strong clinical comfort level with neonatology, Level II nursery protocols, and attending high-risk deliveries
• Available for a January 2027 start date
