Baycare recently committed to building a new state of the art free standing children’s hospital by 2029, and we are seeking surgeons who wish to build destination programs for our new hospital. The new hospital recently received a $50 million dollar donation, one of the largest donations in Tampa Bay’s history, to help make Tampa the best place to receive pediatric care. This exciting opportunity is open to both new graduates and experienced surgeons who are committed to providing exceptional pediatric surgical care. This candidate will be joining a dynamic team of four Pediatric Surgeons and five dedicated Pediatric Advanced Practice Practitioners.

  • General Thoracic Surgery: Participate in general thoracic surgical procedures as part of the pediatric surgery service line.
  • Newborn Surgery: Specialize in surgical care for newborns, addressing congenital and acquired conditions.
  • Call Coverage: Participate in the on-call schedule of approximately 1:5.
  • Teaching opportunities are available through medical student rotations, pediatric residency program, and the newly developing general surgical residency program which will include rotations on the pediatric surgical service.

Facility Highlights:

St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital is Tampa’s first acute care facility exclusively dedicated to pediatric care. The hospital offers:

  • An all-private room facility.
  • A 186-bed capacity.
  • A medical staff of nearly 200 physicians, including approximately 80 pediatric specialists.

In addition to community referrals, all 16 Baycare hospitals refer their pediatric patients directly to centrally located SJCH. The pediatric exclusive Emergency Department is the second busiest pediatric ED in the state. Patient flow allows for adequate case volume and diversity to ensure professional growth and anticipated growth of the surgical group.
