Job summary

Connecticut Children's seeks a Pediatric Emergency Medicine physician to provide comprehensive care for patients from birth through adolescence in an academically integrated ED. The role includes teaching, patient-family education, and involvement in division scholarly activities.

The ideal candidate will hold an MD/DO and be board eligible/certified in PEM, with CT licensure, PALS, ATLS, and DEA registrations, reflecting our standards of excellence.

Qualifications

• MD, MD/PhD, or DO degree or equivalent with attainment of Pediatric Emergency Medicine board eligibility/certification.
• Previous pediatric emergency department experience required.
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Pediatric Emergency Medicine
• Licensed and registered, and in good standing under the laws of the State of Connecticut
• Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
• Advance Trauma Life Support (ATLS)
• Current Federal DEA Controlled Substance Registration
• Current State of Connecticut Controlled Substance Registration

Responsibilities

• Assess, evaluate, diagnose and initially treat pediatric patients who present in the ED with any symptom, illness, injury or condition and provide services necessary to ameliorate minor illnesses or injuries; stabilize patients with major illnesses or injuries and to assess all patients to determine if additional care is necessary.
• Analyze medical histories, diagnostic lab test and x-ray results and perform physical examinations.
• Coordinate patient care with team members, other departments and community agencies and providers as necessary.
• Participate in teaching and learning in an integrated academic model.
• Practice preventive health care through patient and family education and child health advocacy.
• Participate in peer review, development and consultation.
• Participate in special programs and services as assigned.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the age-related differences and needs of patients in appropriate, specific populations from neonate through adolescence and applies them to practice. Demonstrates cultural sensitivity in all interactions with patients/families.
• Demonstrates support for the mission, values and goals of the organization through behaviors that are consistent with the Connecticut Children’s STANDARDS.
• Academic/scholarly work and division citizenship as per division chief.
