In 2011, The University of Minnesota opened a new, state-of-the-art, 227,000-square-foot pediatric facility. The University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital has capacity for 207 patients and includes a full-service pediatric emergency department. Our Emergency Department treats over 23,000 children annually, including many high complexity and high acuity patients, with an overall admission rate of approximately 20%. As the region’s premier pediatric teaching hospital, we have full medical, surgical, and trauma subspecialist coverage, working with trainees from various residency and fellowship programs.
The Department of Pediatrics has over 250 faculty, with a 100-year tradition of excellence in medical care, research, and education. The hospital houses leading pediatric clinical programs, including organ transplants, cancer treatments, and cardiovascular surgery.
Our division values academic activities, medical education, and research. We are recognized for excellent educational rotations, provide resuscitation education through Simulation, and participate in regional and national conferences. Our clinical research emphasizes Quality Initiatives and collaboration.
We care for children with high complexity/acuity conditions, including mental health, addiction, and abuse cases. Our faculty come from diverse backgrounds across the U.S., and we offer 8-9 hour shifts with overlap for smooth shift transitions. The division supports global health initiatives, and the University is a J1 visa site.
Qualifications include an MD or foreign equivalent, board certification or eligibility in pediatric emergency medicine, and ability to obtain PALS instructor certification and Minnesota medical license.
Responsibilities involve diagnosing and treating medical emergencies, teaching residents and medical students, participating in quality improvement projects, and administrative duties. Compensation is competitive, with a salary range of $231,500 - $309,900, plus benefits including retirement, CME allowances, malpractice insurance, and more.
