Job summary

Methodist Children's Hospital is seeking a Pediatric ECMO Coordinator to lead expert clinical care and coordinate ECMO services across the patient continuum. The role collaborates across ICU teams to implement best practices and staff education in a family-centered care model.

The coordinator will engage in education, research, and evidence-based practice, aligning with the hospital's commitment to high-quality ECMO care and patient outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing or RT program with ICU/ECMO experience preferred.
  • Pediatric cardiac/surgical critical care specialization preferred.
  • Current Texas licensure or NBRC credentials (RRT/CRT) required before July 1, 2002 grandfathering noted.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate care for patients requiring ECMO across ICU teams and continuum of acuity.
  • Collaborate with Lung Rescue ICU and Cardiovascular ICU teams to establish best practices and staff standards.
  • Promote family-centered care and education for patients, families, and staff.
  • Engage in clinical education, research, and evidence-based practice within the ECMO program.

Job Summary And Qualifications

Will function independently and collaboratively as an expert clinician, educator, consultant, and researcher in Extracorporeal Membranous Oxygenator (ECMO) Care. The ECMO Coordinator will coordinate the care of patients requiring ECMO and their families across the continuum of acuity in order to ensure consistent family-centered care. The ECMO Coordinator is dedicated to promoting optimal patient/family care by collaborating with all members of the Lung Rescue ICU and the Cardiovascular ICU Team to set best practices in patient care and staff practice standards according to evidence based guidelines. The ECMO Primer must have equivalent qualifications, competence and function in the same role as employed individuals performing the same or similar services at the facility, as defined by facility job description.

What qualifications you will need:
Minimum Education and Experience:
  • Graduate of an accredited diploma, associates, or baccalaureate degree nursing program or RT program. BSN with 2 years of ICU experience with ECMO preferred. OR Graduate of an approved Respiratory Therapy Program. Two-year previous Respiratory Therapy experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in Neonatal/Pediatric ECMO specialist preferred
  • Specialization in pediatric cardiac/surgical critical care preferred.
Minimum License and Certificates Required:
  • Current licensure to practice professional nursing in the State of Texas. OR Must possess a current license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner, from the Texas Medical Board, to practice Respiratory Care in the State of Texas.
  • Must possess a current credential as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) OR must possess a current credential as a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) BEFORE July 1, 2002 (Grandfathered CRT).
