Job summary

Children's National Hospital is seeking a Certified Respiratory Therapist I (CRT I) to provide acute and emergency department-level respiratory care under supervision. You will perform assessments, deliver prescribed therapies, monitor responses, and document care according to hospital standards.

The role requires an Associate’s degree in respiratory therapy, DC CRT licensure, BLS and PALS, and a background in respiratory care.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in respiratory therapy is required.
• Prior experience in respiratory care is preferred.
• Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) in DC is required.
• RCP license from DC DOH Health Regulation & Licensing Administration is required.
• Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS) is required.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is required.

Responsibilities

• Performs respiratory assessments and identifies changes in patients’ respiratory status, escalating concerns appropriately.
• Provides prescribed respiratory treatments and therapies, including oxygen therapy, aerosolized medications, airway clearance, and other routine respiratory interventions.
• Monitors patients before, during, and after respiratory procedures and evaluates response to therapy.
• Operates, troubleshoots, cleans, and maintains respiratory care equipment.
• Assists with airway management and emergency respiratory interventions within established competency and scope of practice.
• Collaborates with nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals regarding patient respiratory needs.
• Documents assessments, interventions, patient response, and other required information accurately and timely.
• Provides patient and family education regarding respiratory treatments, equipment, medications, and disease management.
