Job summary

Shriners Children's Texas in Galveston seeks a full-time Pediatric Intensivist to care for critically ill pediatric patients in a 15-bed PICU, with a primary focus on high-acuity burn cases and other complex conditions.

The role features a 7-on/7-off schedule with day coverage and in-house night support, plus heavy collaboration with APPs, residents, and a burn fellow. Teaching, research, and quality-improvement activities are encouraged.

Qualifications

• MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
• ACGME-accredited pediatrics residency completed.
• Fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine completed.
• Board certification or eligibility in Pediatrics and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine.
• Eligibility for active and unrestricted medical licensure; DEA eligibility.
• BLS for HealthCare Providers and PALS certification.
• Credentialing and privileging per hospital bylaws; strong leadership and communication.
• Extensive knowledge of pediatric pathophysiology and intensive care procedures.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and manage acute and chronic critical illnesses in pediatric patients.
• Provide advanced life support including mechanical ventilation and vasoactive meds.
• Perform procedures such as intubation, central line placement, arterial access, LPs.
• Coordinate with subspecialists, nurses, and therapists for comprehensive care.
• Collaborate with surgical teams to stabilize critically ill patients.
• Discuss prognosis and plans with families in a compassionate manner.
• Provide emotional support and mentor residents and fellows.
• Engage in clinical research, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice.
• Maintain thorough medical documentation and adhere to safety standards.
