Job summary

Phoenix Children's is seeking an experienced Physician Assistant to join the Cardiothoracic Surgery team. The role includes operating room first assisting for complex congenital cardiac surgeries, inpatient postoperative care, and outpatient visits, working with five PAs and a dedicated surgical team.

Ideal candidates have NCCPA certification and AZ licensure eligibility, strong communication skills, and 2–5 years of clinical/surgical experience.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited university with NCCPA certification.
• Must be licensed/certified or eligible to practice as PA in Arizona.
• Excellent verbal, written and oral communication skills.
• Demonstrated leadership ability.
• Flexibility to adjust schedule to meet patient and staff needs.
• Two to five years of clinical experience preferred; surgical experience preferred.
• Strong computer skills in an Electronic Medical Record.

Responsibilities

• Serve as first assistant in operating room for complex congenital cardiac surgeries.
• Perform inpatient postoperative procedures (e.g., chest tube removal, RA line removal, pacing wire removal, suture removal, wound checks, wound vac changes).
• Participate in surgery consultations, preoperative clearance, and postoperative visits.
• Collaborate with attending physicians and a team including surgeons, fellows and nurses.
• Call coverage limited to OR case coverage and bedside procedures.
