Job summary

Duke Health in Durham, NC seeks a BC/BE pediatrician to staff Pediatric Cardiac Stepdown units as a first-call provider. This position is part of Duke Children’s Hospital’s Pediatric Cardiology Service, based in Durham.

Responsibilities include direct patient care, daily rounds with the Davison Service fellows and faculty, and collaboration with cardiology teams. 12-hour shifts and a supportive team culture are offered.

Qualifications

• MD or DO graduate from an accredited medical school program.
• Current and unrestricted medical license issued by NCMB.
• Federal and State DEA with unrestricted prescriptive authority.
• American Board of Pediatrics (board certified or board eligible)
• PALs certification required.

Responsibilities

• Cover patients in the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Stepdown Unit as first call provider.
• Rounding with Davison Service fellow and attending, encouraging input from all team members.
• Assessment, evaluation, diagnostic determination, and clinical management of pediatric cardiology patients.
• When indicated, make referrals for consultation.
• Order medications and therapeutic treatments when warranted.
• Plan discharge when appropriate for inpatients under care.
• Direct contact with patient families to communicate status and care plans.
• Complete all clinical documentation to ensure compliance with regulations.
• Respond to codes/RRTs on heart center patients.
• Foster a positive work culture across departments.
• Perform other duties incidental to the role.
