Location: ECU Health's Level 1 Trauma Center, Greenville, North Carolina; Maynard's Children's Hospital

Status: Full-time, Exempt; potential years to partnership

Department: Clinical - Physicians

Reports to: Corporate Administrator

Job Summary

The Pediatric Anesthesiologist will provide anesthetics at ECU Health Medical Center and Maynard's Children's Hospital in Greenville, NC. The role involves patient evaluations, examinations, and developing anesthetic plans. The physician will work with pediatric and adult patients, supervise certified registered nurse anesthetists and anesthesia assistants, and utilize various anesthesia techniques, including regional anesthesia, during surgeries and outpatient procedures. Monitoring post-operative care for safe recovery is also essential.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Prepares and administers general and regional anesthetics and pain medication, adjusting as needed before, during, and after surgery
  • Provides anesthesia maintenance and adjustment during procedures
  • Maintains patient records
  • Orders diagnostic tests as needed
  • Works closely with surgical specialists
  • Performs venous and arterial punctures
  • Performs pre-anesthesia patient evaluation
  • Provides post-anesthesia care and evaluation
  • Provides and monitors mechanical ventilation
  • Communicates with patients and families
  • Reacts appropriately to adverse reactions and complications
  • Evaluates patient histories, lab results, and surgical plans for anesthesia management
  • Monitors vital signs and critical functions during procedures
  • Performs airway management and extubation
  • Monitors recovery post-procedures to ensure safety
  • Takes detailed medical histories for allergy assessment
  • Supervises nurse anesthetists and technical staff
  • Mentors interns, residents, and fellows
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Education And Experience
  • Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited medical school
  • Completed or in training for an Anesthesia Residency
  • Completed or pursuing Pediatric fellowship
  • Board certification or eligibility (BC/BE) in Anesthesiology
  • NC state medical license
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in high-acuity settings

  • Strong commitment to patient safety
  • Ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment
Work Environment/Physical Requirements
  • Work in an office environment with frequent contact with medical staff and patients
