Qualifications

• Master's or Post Master's Degree in nursing.
• Texas NP license with practice authority (PNP-AC).
• Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner - Acute Care (CPNP-AC).
• Active RN and NP licenses in Texas.
• BLS, PALS, and ACLS certifications.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialized care to children with complex acute, critical, and chronic conditions in the CICU.
• Perform and document comprehensive histories, exams, and ongoing assessments.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care with the care team.
• Write orders for medications, nursing care, labs, imaging, and other services.
• Review labs, imaging, vital signs, and clinical data.
• Coordinate continuity of care during hospitalization and discharge planning.
• Collaborate with physicians and families to identify discharge needs and follow-up care.
• Provide patient and family education and serve as a resource for staff.

Driscoll Children's Hospital is seeking a Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner to join our Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) team. The Nurse Practitioner provides specialized care to children with complex acute, critical, and chronic conditions. Working collaboratively with pediatric intensivists and the interdisciplinary care team, this position assesses patients, develops and implements treatment plans, coordinates care, and supports patients and families throughout hospitalization and discharge. The ideal candidate is a skilled and compassionate provider with strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to delivering safe, collaborative, and family-centered care. Responsibilities

• Provide specialized care to children with complex acute, critical, and chronic conditions in the CICU.
• Perform and document comprehensive patient histories, physical examinations, and ongoing clinical assessments.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care in collaboration with the supervising physician and interdisciplinary care team.
• Write appropriate orders for medications, nursing care, laboratory testing, imaging, and other diagnostic or therapeutic services within the approved scope of practice.
• Review and interpret laboratory results, imaging studies, vital signs, and other clinical data.
• Initiate appropriate interventions and communicate significant findings or changes in a patient's condition to the supervising physician.
• Request consultations, referrals, additional testing, or medical interventions as clinically appropriate.
• Complete consultation notes, progress notes, and other required documentation accurately and within established timeframes.
• Coordinate continuity of care throughout the patient’s hospitalization.
• Collaborate with physicians, clinical staff, patients, and families to identify anticipated discharge needs and coordinate follow-up care.
• Provide and document patient and family education, including discharge instructions.
• Serve as a clinical resource for nursing staff and other members of the care team.
• Participate in PICU- and CICU-based conferences, committees, quality initiatives, and the development of clinical practice standards.
• Serve as a liaison and advocate for high-risk patients, children with complex or chronic healthcare needs, and their families.
• Collaborate with research personnel on approved research projects and data collection, as applicable.
• Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.
• Follow hospital policies, clinical standards, regulatory requirements, and corporate compliance guidelines.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Master's or Post Master's Degree, required.
• Graduation from a Nurse Practitioners Program with practice authority in the State of Texas, required.
• Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner - Acute Care (CPNP-AC), required.
• Active and unencumbered nurse practitioner and registered nurse license in the State of Texas, required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications, required.
• Minimum of 2-3 years of pediatric critical care experience, recommended.
• Must complete and maintain Driscoll Children's Hospital credentialing, medical staff membership, and appropriate clinical privileges.
• Must complete and maintain all specialty courses and continuing education required by Driscoll Children's Hospital.

• $2,000 per fiscal year for professional licenses, dues, books, and periodicals
• $1,750 per fiscal year for Continuing Medical Education (CME) expenses
• 32 hours of CME time in addition to standard PTO
