Job description

Job Title

Peace Officer II (PO II) – Protective Services Branch (PSB), Canyon Springs Community Facility (CSCF).

Position Overview

As a sworn peace officer under California Penal Code Section 830.38, the PO II leads security operations, supervises PO I officers, and ensures compliance with department standards. The PO II is accountable for staffing, training, investigative reporting, and policy implementation for the facility.

Responsibilities

• Detect and verify suspected violations of laws, rules, regulations, and facility policies.
• Enforce and maintain law and order at the DC/CF.
• Plan, organize, and direct overall security policies and programs to protect persons and property.
• Supervise PO I responses to service calls, alarms, emergent situations, investigations, and reports.
• Oversee daily tasks of PO Is and ensure training requirements are met per POST mandates.
• Prepare and review written investigative reports, maintain record control systems, and identify personnel and equipment needs.
• Establish office protocols and report serious or unusual situations.
• Perform program or policy development and interpretation duties as directed.

Special Requirements

• Completed Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) Basic Academy (certificate required).
• Current California driver’s license.
• Background check clearance (employment and personal references, FBI, California DOJ fingerprint, DMV, notarized waiver).
• Pre‑employment physical and fingerprint clearance.
• Peace Officer II examination (if not already taken) – required to be passed.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of laws, regulations, and facility policies concerning developmental services.
• Ability to investigate, analyze, and act promptly in emergencies.

• Familiarity with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and rules applicable to developmental services.
• Skill in interviewing individuals with limited ability to communicate.
• Capability to respond to crises and implement effective actions.
• Excellent supervisory and communication skills.
