Role Mission

IDEA Physical Education teachers instruct students in Academy Grades {PreK-5} and/or College Preparatory Grades {6-12} in all physical education aspects. The physical education program strives to develop students' personal fitness and skill-related abilities. The program reinforces students' understanding and application of fitness concepts and motor skills through a variety of movement forms and activities.

All physical education teachers are responsible for ensuring that every IDEA student masters personal and social responsibility, self-directed learning, and the problem-solving skills necessary to succeed in college. IDEA Physical Education teachers set ambitious goals for student achievement and diligently track student data to inform dynamic and effective daily lesson plans. Student class size can vary depending on the grade level/levels assigned and campus schedule model. A typical Physical Education classroom may have a classroom size of 25-60 students and may potentially have the support of a PE co-teacher.

Compensation

• Starting salary for 0 years of experience is $58,500. This role is eligible for stipends based on certifications, credentials, and campus leadership, ranging from $500-$4,000 each. • Additional hourly compensation is provided for after-school tutoring or Saturday school as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

Education: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution, preferably in physical education, kinesiology, physiology, physical therapy, or nutrition and health.

Experience: Some experience working with children in large group or team settings, such as recreation centers, scouts, or fitness programs.

Licenses/Certifications: State certification preferred but not required.

Knowledge and Skills: Ability to motivate students, manage large groups, and possess strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Adaptability to various school situations is essential.

Responsibilities

• Implement IDEA curricula and assessments to meet goals.

• Submit weekly lesson plans two weeks in advance.
• Conduct fitness assessments, track progress, and update gradebooks weekly.
• Communicate fitness progress to students and families weekly.
• Implement behavior management systems and foster character development.
• Contribute to a positive school culture and support district wellness policies.
• Participate in professional development and school activities.
• Serve as a Healthy Kids Here campus representative.
• Engage in ongoing professional learning.
• Spend at least 40 hours weekly at school.
• Additional duties may include after-school tutoring or Saturday school.
• Secondary role as Campus Athletics Coordinator may be assigned at principal’s discretion.
