Job description

PE System Development Engineer

The Electrification Development Team at HATCI is seeking a highly motivated engineer to support the development of Power Electronics (PE) systems for Hyundai Motor Group's next-generation electrified vehicles. This role will be responsible for evaluating, developing, and optimizing key power electronics technologies, with a primary focus on traction inverters, electric drive systems, and related electrified propulsion components. The engineer will collaborate closely with internal development teams and global engineering organizations to support system design, performance assessment, benchmarking, testing, and technology validation activities.

As part of the Electrification Development Team, the successful candidate will contribute to the advancement of electrified powertrain technologies that enhance vehicle performance, efficiency, drivability, and overall customer value. The team plays a critical role in identifying future technology opportunities, supporting product development programs, and strengthening Hyundai Motor Group's competitiveness through technical analysis, testing, and innovation.

This position offers the opportunity to work in a highly collaborative environment with engineering teams across North America and global Hyundai Motor Group organizations. The engineer will participate in cross-functional projects involving powertrain development, controls, system integration, vehicle architecture, and testing to help deliver innovative electrification solutions for future vehicle programs.

The role is an important part of HATCI's mission to advance Hyundai Motor Group's electrification strategy and reinforce its leadership in sustainable mobility. By supporting the development and validation of advanced power electronics and electric propulsion technologies, the engineer will make a direct contribution to the successful development of future battery electric and hybrid vehicle programs for the North American market and beyond.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Support the development and validation of power electronics systems and electrified propulsion technologies for Hyundai Motor Group's current and future electrified vehicle programs.
  • Evaluate and benchmark electrified propulsion systems, including traction inverters, electric drive systems, electric machines, and related components to identify technology opportunities and competitive advantages.
  • Conduct engineering studies, testing, and data analysis to improve vehicle performance, efficiency, drivability, and overall system capability.
  • Develop and execute test plans using simulation tools, dynamometer facilities, and vehicle-level evaluations to assess new technologies and system performance.
  • Investigate emerging industry trends, competitor technologies, and market developments, and provide recommendations for future product and technology strategies.
  • Collaborate closely with Hyundai Motor Group R&D organizations in Korea and North America to support the introduction of new electrified propulsion technologies into production vehicle programs.
  • Provide technical support for electrified propulsion system issues throughout the vehicle development process, including both pre-production and post-production investigations.
  • Work with cross-functional teams in vehicle engineering, controls development, testing, and system integration to ensure successful implementation of new technologies.
  • Support research activities with external partners, including universities, national laboratories, suppliers, and industry organizations.
  • Identify and support cost reduction opportunities through technical analysis, benchmarking, design optimization, component evaluation, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare and deliver technical reports, presentations, and recommendations to management and engineering teams.
  • Contribute to the growth of the engineering team through technical collaboration, knowledge sharing, mentoring, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain awareness of industry advancements and contribute to technical publications, patent development, and innovation activities where applicable.
  • Travel domestically and internationally as needed to support testing, benchmarking, supplier visits, technical meetings, and collaboration with Hyundai Motor Group global engineering organizations.
