Job summary

Algiers Charter Schools Association in New Orleans is seeking a Physical Education (PE) Assistant to support the PE teacher in creating a safe, engaging gym and outdoor spaces that promote fitness, teamwork, and healthy habits.

You will help with daily activities, supervise students during classes and events, prepare equipment, enforce safety, and assist with setup and breakdown for athletic events, field days, and recess, while maintaining confidentiality and following district guidelines.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Associate degree or coursework in education, kinesiology, recreation, or a related field preferred.
• Experience working with children in educational, recreational, athletic, or childcare setting preferred.
• Current CPR and First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain upon hire.
• Must successfully pass all required criminal background checks and meet all state and district employment requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Physical Education Teacher with daily lesson implementation and student activities.
• Prepare, distribute, organize, and store athletic equipment and instructional materials before and after classes.
• Supervise students during indoor and outdoor physical education activities to ensure safety and appropriate behavior.
• Reinforce school-wide expectations for student conduct, sportsmanship, and respect.
• Monitor students during transitions to and from physical education classes.
• Assist students individually or in small groups as directed by the Physical Education Teacher.
• Help modify activities and provide support for students with varying physical abilities or accommodations.
• Observe and report student injuries, behavioral concerns, or safety issues to the Physical Education Teacher or school administration immediately.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the gymnasium, equipment storage areas, fields, and other activity spaces.
• Inspect equipment regularly and report damaged or unsafe equipment.
• Assist with setting up and breaking down equipment for athletic events, field days, testing, assemblies, and special school activities.
• Provide supervision during recess, field trips, and other school-sponsored events as assigned.
• Support emergency drills and follow all school safety procedures.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding students and staff.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Physical Education Teacher, Principal, or designee.

Education

Work Environment

• Some evening or weekend hours may be required for after-school sports activities or events.
• Must be able to supervise students during indoor and outdoor activities.
• Occasional travel for sports events and competitions.
