   • A police recruit is a temporary status for new employees while they complete the following:
     • Satisfactorily attend and complete the Basic Course in Applied Police Science (BCAPS, also known as Basic Police Academy)
     • Satisfactorily acquire a T.C.O.L.E Basic Peace Officer Certification
     • Satisfactorily complete Field Training and Probationary Period

Pay Structure

This opportunity is non-exempt and budgeted on a Step Plan. Pay for this opportunity will depend on qualifications.

1. Police Recruit (PD1, 1)
   • Starting Annualized Salary: $38.13 ($79,310)
2. Police Officer (PD2, 1-7)
   • Starting Annualized Salary- Step 1: $39.66 ($82,500)
   • The starting salary of certified officers is based on the previous experience level of the applicant as a full-time police officer.

Requirements

Candidates must meet the following to apply:

1. Candidates must be 21 years of age by T.C.O.L.E Graduation, or older
2. Valid State of Texas Driver's License, or the ability to obtain one, with a good driving record
3. Ability to satisfactorily complete our hiring process:
   • Complete the Preliminary Application
   • Physical Fitness Test (Concept 2 Rower)
   • Written Examination
   • Internal Background Investigation
   • Online DISC Assessment
   • Oral Panel Interview
4. Ability to satisfactorily complete all pre-employment requirements post contingent offer:
   • Credit, Education, and Employment Verification
   • Polygraph, Psychological (L3), and Drug/Medical Evaluation (L2)
   • Chief's Meeting

Education

1. High School Diploma/GED
2. Thirty (30) hours of college education from a regionally accredited university or college with a 2.0, or higher, overall grade point average (GPA)

Experience

1. Police Recruit
   • Ability to satisfactorily attend and complete the Basic Course in Applied Police Science (BCAPS, also known as Basic Police Academy)
   • Ability to satisfactorily acquire a T.C.O.L.E Basic Peace Officer Certification
   • Ability to satisfactorily complete Field Training and Probationary Period
2. Police Officer
   • T.C.O.L.E Basic Peace Officer Certification

Lateral Transfer candidates are required to possess the following:

1. Be in good standing with current/previous agency
2. Certified Peace Officer with at least 3 years of experience in a progressive agency of comparable size to Coppell from any state
3. Experience as a reserve officer, constable, military service, military police, and jailer is not accepted.

Other desirable education/experience/knowledge/skillsets:

1. Prior patrol duty experience
2. TCOLE Advanced Certification
3. Fluency in a language other than English
4. Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, or a related field of study
