Summary

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) serves as a caregiver to the patient during the scheduled work period. The PCT provides patient-centered nursing care and assistance with daily living activities to assigned patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).

Job Description

• Record vital statistics and basic health information.
• Administer basic health care and medical treatments.
• Assist with daily living activities such as dressing, bathing, grooming, toileting, etc.
• Support meal preparation, emotional and spiritual needs, and laundry.
• Clean patient living areas or treatment rooms.
• Collect non-invasive biological specimens.
• Prepare patient treatment areas and medical equipment.
• Dispose of biomedical waste according to standards and policies.
• Perform clerical work related to scheduling and documentation.
• Provide one-on-one care to patients when necessary for safety.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred, but not required.
• Knowledge of healthcare, anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and equipment preferred.
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred.
• Must obtain and maintain required competencies and certifications.
• In North Dakota, non-CNA employees must be on the Nurse Aide Registry within four months of employment.
