Job summary

Tokyo Central PCH is looking for associates to join our buffet kitchen team. Prior experience with Japanese food is preferred but not required. You will handle Delica items, cook hot meals, and ensure presentable displays in a fast-paced retail deli.

We value punctuality, teamwork, and a positive attitude as core requirements to deliver excellent customer service and maintain food quality and cleanliness.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Must be 18 or older to use sharp knives and operate power-driven equipment.
• No experience required, but 1–2 years in a similar environment preferred.
• CA Food Handling license or ability to acquire one.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Exposure to hazards with equipment and food prep materials.

Responsibilities

• Processing, cutting, and wrapping Delica items.
• Maintains organized back stock/cooler area.
• Cook hot meals (Deli and Japanese food).
• Follow recipes and measure ingredients accurately.
• Maintain communication with management, associates, and vendors.
• Foster a positive, team-oriented work environment.

Tokyo Central PCH is looking for associates in our buffet kitchens. Previous experience with Japanese food preferred, but not necessary.

We are very excited in interviewing these team members and request that you bring the following to the table:

• Love food and can present the food in a nice and neat manner in the Deli area.
• Have a positive attitude and work well in a team environment. We want our associates to be the strong foundation of the department, ensure that tasks are completed, and customers have an excellent shopping experience with your friendly attitude and nicely displayed food.
• Have experience preparing food in a retail setting. We encourage our team members to understand not only know HOW but WHY it’s important to help customers and ensure quality in our product.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned):

• Processing, cutting, and wrapping Delica items
• Maintains a well-organized back stock/cooler area
• Cook hot meals (Deli and Japanese food)
• Follow recipes and must accurately measure ingredients
• Maintains good communication with store management, associates and suppliers/vendors
• Fosters and encourages a positive environment of outstanding teamwork, mutual respect, and exceptional morale.
• Assure proper displaying and selling of all Delica products to customers and advise customers on healthy food and answering customer questions.
• Responsible for cleanliness and sanitation of the Delica back room and front displays.
• Follow the employee handbook at all times, especially on service standards and appearance.
• At all times, meet and/or exceed the Tokyo Central store standards in service, quality, and cleanliness.

Customer Service:

• Providing premier customer service, including greeting them and responding to questions
• Engaging in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
• Meets or exceeds Department’s sales goals assigned through the efficient execution of Company policies and procedures
• Maintains cleanliness of work area, storage area, and selling floor products
• Ensures a safe and clean work environment
• Store Support Associates exemplify teamwork and are open to and willing to be trained and step in when needed in all departments and similar skilled areas for filling and development opportunities.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred
• Must be 18 or older to use sharp knives, use ladders, scaffolds or their substitutes, substitutes above 6 feet in height, and to operate or assist in operating power-driven machinery or equipment.
• Must be able to use job related equipment such as slicer, scale, saw, knife and wrapper
• No experience required, but a minimum of 1-2 years of work experience in a similar work environment is preferred
• Previous experience as a Line Cook, Prep Cook, or Deli Clerk experience is preferred
• Possess a CA Food Handling license or the ability to acquire one
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds without aid
• Exposure to potential hazards exists with respect to equipment and work aides necessary to perform job duties. Hands are in frequent contact with water, vegetables, deli, and sushi meat while performing job duties.

REQUIREMENTS

• Comfortable with working in a kitchen environment
• Must be able to follow recipes and accurately measure ingredients
• Must be able to operate related equipment such as knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, garbage disposals, pallet jacks and hand trucks
• Able to deliver friendly, courteous, prompt customer service
• Able to read, write, and do simple math problems
• Able to interpret, understand and follow instructions
• Ability to effectively communicate and respond to questions from the general public and management
• Ability to interact with all levels of management
• Has or willing to obtain a CA Food Handler's Certificate
