AmeriCorps & Senior Corps is seeking a Horticulture Coordinator to oversee native plant nursery operations and landscape management at the Palouse Nature Center, under supervision. The role collaborates with all PCEI staff and supports local restoration projects.
The duties include nursery tracking, landscape stewardship, and youth outreach. Ideal candidates have horticulture knowledge and experience educating diverse groups.
The Horticulture Coordinator will oversee the success of PCEI native plant nursery and landscape management of the Palouse Nature Center with supervision and direction from the Project Manager and collaboration with all PCEI staff. The member will coordinate ongoing landscape maintenance at the Palouse Nature Center and at times assist at local restoration project sites.DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Excellent verbal, written & graphic communication abilities; Experience organizing/coordinating groups/projects; Experience leading/teaching people of various ages; Demonstrated time management and problem-solving abilities; Demonstrated computer skills; Experience doing physical labor outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain; Able to lift at least 50 lbs.; Knowledge of ecology, conservation, restoration, horticulture, land management, education, adult learning, curriculum and instruction, or related fields.POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Must be at least 20 years of age; Must be U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident; Valid driver’s license & good driving record; Must possess high school diploma/equivalent; Must commit to the full term of service; Must successfully pass fingerprint criminal history background check. MEMBER DUTIES: Native plant nursery management and tracking (costs, inventory, plant health and mortality, sales, donations, etc.); Landscape stewardship at Palouse Nature Center and Rose Creek Nature Preserve; Children's Edible Garden planting and maintenance; Volunteer leader and educator for horticultural events and outreach; Horticulture event tracking and supervision; Assist in development of horticulture program plans and procedures.IDEAL CANDIDATE: Horticulture background/education, landscape/gardening experience
