Job summary

Hewlett Packard Enterprise seeks a motivated PCB Layout Automation Intern to support automation and tool development within our networking hardware engineering team. The role blends hardware design with programming, using Cadence Allegro PCB Designer and SKILL to improve workflows.

You will work with senior PCB engineers on high-speed layouts for switches and routers, gaining hands-on experience developing automation utilities and reusable tools.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
• Coursework in programming (data structures, scripting, or software fundamentals).
• Strong interest in combining software development with hardware design; analytical mindset.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing and testing SKILL-based automation utilities.
• Modify and enhance existing SKILL scripts for differential pair validation, length matching reports, constraint audits, and design rule automation.
• Create simple custom Allegro forms (GUI elements) using SKILL.
• Develop reporting tools for layout metrics and quality checks.
• Document scripting workflows and best practices.
• Support integration of Allegro automation with external scripts (Python or batch tools).
• Assist with basic routing and placement tasks.
• Run design rule checks (DRC) and analyze results.
• Support engineering change orders (ECOs).
• Observe high-speed routing methodologies for Ethernet, PCIe, and DDR interfaces.
• Gain exposure to stack-up design and impedance control principles.
