Form Energy is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to support the development and validation of advanced battery technology. As part of the BMS Hardware & Electrical Systems team, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle of PCBA design, from requirements generation and component selection through schematic/layout development, design release, vendor DFM, board bring-up, verification, and sustaining.
The engineer will work cross-functionally with Mechanical, Firmware/Software, Manufacturing, System Engineering, and Test/Verification teams to deliver safe, reliable, and compliant PCBAs for high-power and hazardous systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the full lifecycle of PCBA design, including requirements, component selection, schematic/layout, design release, vendor DFM, bring-up, verification, configuration management, and sustaining.
- Ensure PCBA designs meet safety, reliability, and compliance requirements for high-power and hazardous systems.
- Develop requirements, DFMEA/CFMEA, electrical block diagrams, simulations, analysis, schematics, layouts, bring-up/test plans, and 8D reports.
- Collaborate with System Engineering, Mechanical/Electro-Mechanical, Firmware/Software, and Test/Verification teams.
- Troubleshoot and resolve electrical system and PCBA-related issues.
- Support maintenance and continuous improvement of released PCBA designs.
- Document design concepts, architecture, block diagrams, bring-up/test results, root-cause investigations, and decision matrices.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field with 7+ years of relevant experience; or Master’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience.
- Strong proficiency with Altium or equivalent ECAD software.
- Hands-on experience with:
- Sensors
- AC, SMPS, and LDO
- MCU, MPU, and SOM
- Ethernet, CAN-FD, and isoSPI
- SPI, UART, I2C, and JTAG
- I/O, ADC, and DAC
- Gate drivers, motor drivers, and HSD
- Control systems
- Strong understanding of safety and compliance requirements for high-power and/or chemical environments.
- Experience designing PCBAs and electrical systems to UL 991, UL 1973, UL 9540, and UL 1998 requirements.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to balance speed, rigor, and safety.
- Familiarity with PLM tools such as Arena or Teamcenter, JIRA, and requirements management tools such as JAMA.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with battery or energy storage systems.
- Experience working on high-power electrical systems and hazardous environments.
- Experience supporting PCBA design from concept through production and sustaining.
