Job summary

Rockwell Automation is seeking a Printed Circuit Board Design Engineer to support complex electronic product development in a hybrid role based in Mayfield Heights, OH or Milwaukee, WI. You will report to the PCB Design Team Lead and drive multilayer PCB layouts from placement to release.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, 2+ years preferred and 5+ years PCB layout experience with HDI techniques, DFM, and IPC standards knowledge. Travel may be occasional.

Responsibilities

• Develop PCB layouts for complex multilayer designs from component placement through final release.
• Implement HDI techniques, including blind, buried, and stacked vias, balancing performance, manufacturability, reliability and cost.
• Collaborate with international hardware, mechanical, manufacturing, and supplier teams to ensure PCB fabrication and assembly success.
• Create fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, design outputs, release packages and other product documentation.
• Support DFM reviews and implement recommended improvements.
• Perform DRC, layout and documentation reviews to meet project requirements and standards.
• Support prototype builds, production releases, and root cause investigations related to PCB design and manufacturing.

Job Description

We are looking for a Printed Circuit Board Design Engineer to support complex electronic product development. You will report to the PCB Design Team Lead in Rockwell's Software & Control business and will work a hybrid schedule at our office in Mayfield Heights OH or Milwaukee WI.

Your Responsibilities

• Develop PCB layouts for complex multilayer designs from component placement through final release.
• Implement HDI design techniques, including blind, buried, and stacked vias, while balancing electrical performance, manufacturability, reliability, and cost.
• Collaborate with international hardware, mechanical, manufacturing, and supplier teams to ensure successful PCB fabrication and assembly.
• Create PCB fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, design outputs, release packages, and other required product documentation.
• Support Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews with and implement recommended improvements.
• Perform design rule checks (DRC), layout reviews, and documentation reviews to ensure compliance with project requirements and company standards.
• Support prototype builds, production releases, and root cause investigations related to PCB design and manufacturing.

Essentials – You Will Have

• Bachelor's Degree in Relevant Field

• Requires occasional local travel.

The Preferred – You Might Also Have

• Bachelor's in electrical engineering
• Typically requires a minimum of two years of related experience.
• 5+ years of PCB layout experience
• Working knowledge of Siemens Xpedition PCB Design Suite, including schematic-driven layout, constraint management, design rule checking, and manufacturing output generation.
• Familiarity with signal integrity, power integrity, and controlled impedance design best practices.
• Experience with fine‑pitch BGA breakout strategies, multilayer stackups, and high‑density routing.
• Working knowledge of PCB fabrication processes, assembly requirements, panelization, manufacturing constraints, and DFM principles.
• Experience with PCB materials, layer constructions, drill structures, via technologies, and manufacturing tolerances.
• Knowledge of IPC design standards and PCB manufacturing specifications.
• Experience supporting industrial, automotive, aerospace, medical, or other high‑reliability electronic products.
• Experience with other enterprise PCB design tools such as Altium Designer or Cadence Allegro is also beneficial.
