Job description

Salary: $17 - $19 / per hour

A Personal Care Assistant is an individual who provides support services to assist clients with personal, physical mobility and therapeutic care needs, as established by a rehabilitation health practitioner, social worker or other health care professional. The Personal Care Assistant may work in a variety of settings, to include home or schools.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provides services to persons who need help with day-to-day activities
  2. Demonstrates competence in performing the necessary skills and perform those skills on the plan of care
  3. Provides health care tasks, personal hygiene services, and other related support services essential to the client’s health
  4. Assists with transfers and ambulation
  5. Aids teacher in helping student learn and provides feedback to student and supervisors/teachers (if applicable)
  6. Performs incidental household services that are an integral part of a personal care plan (if applicable)
  7. In school setting, accompanies student on bus to and from school (if applicable)
  8. Provides companionship by reading, listening and talking with client
  9. May assist in supervision of students during recess and lunch periods and accompany student on community experiences
  10. Strictly adheres to confidentiality requirements
  11. Assists client in the development of independent skills through self-care activities such as toileting, clothing routines and personal hygiene
  12. Implements behavior management techniques in accordance with the directions given by the supervisor/healthcare practitioner; including reinforcing appropriate behaviors in accordance with plans and discouraging negative behavior, managing time out, or other techniques as directed
  13. Appropriately reports changes in client status or as directed by care plan
  14. Maintains confidentiality of all information pertaining to clients, families and employees
  15. Adheres to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) privacy policies and procedures
  16. Performs other duties as assigned/necessary

Minimum Requirements:

  1. State licensure or certification as required by state and/or program
  2. One (1) year relevant experience preferred
  3. Current BLS Card
  4. Current PPD or Chest X-Ray
  5. Knowledge of child growth and development
  6. Ability to coordinate and facilitate services between the home, school, local health agency, and other community resources
  7. Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language may be required
  8. Computer proficiency required
  9. Must be at least 18 years of age
