The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) works under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse. S/he is directly responsible to the Nurse Director and/or designee of the patient care unit to which he/she is assigned.

The Patient Transporter performs a variety of duties involving transportation of patients and equipment throughout the hospital. Cleans, sanitizes and delivers beds and transport equipment; maintains job activity logs as required.

Position Qualifications

Licensure/Certification/ Registration:

• Completion of a PCA program; or 1+ years of hands-on patient care experience or completion of medical assistant program with a minimum of 1 year experience.
• Recent sub-acute or acute care nursing assistant experience preferred.
• Basic Life Support Certification.
• CPI Certification must be obtained if PCA will be working as a patient observer.

• Must possess the following skills: reading, writing and simple mathematical calculations.

• Ability to work effectively with individuals and groups.

• Manual dexterity required to perform tests and to complete treatments.
