Job Summary:

The Personal Care Aide (PCA) provides clients with personal care and homemaker/companion services according to an established plan of care, enabling them to remain in their homes.

Essential Functions:

• Personal Care: Assisting with bathing, dressing, grooming, nail/skin care, back care, foot care, shampooing, oral hygiene, ambulation, transfers, range of motion exercises, safe use of equipment and assistive devices (wheelchair, walker, crutches, cane), changing positions, toileting, commode use, incontinent care, meal planning and preparation, feeding assistance.

• Companion/Sitter/Household Management: Providing companionship and respite for families; performing homemaking tasks such as vacuuming, dusting, sweeping/mopping, dishes, changing bed linens, laundry, bathroom cleaning.

• Medication Reminders

Qualifications/Educational Requirements:

• High school diploma or G.E.D.
• Successful completion of a state-approved Personal Care Aide course
• At least six months of experience as a Personal Care Aide
• Good standing on the New York State Nurse Aide Registry
• Minimum score of 80% on the Home Health Aide competency exam
• Passes the DEARS Ethics test
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
• Valid driver’s license, insured vehicle, or reliable transportation
