Job summary

Riverside Walter Reed Hospital is hiring a Patient Care Assistant to support RN-led care on the mid shift (10 AM–10 PM). You will perform selected tasks such as wound care assistance, EKGs, venipuncture, and splinting under validated competency, while emphasizing patient safety and comfort.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED (preferred) and CPR/BLS certification. CNA/EMT or CMA/RMA credentials, or enrollment in an LPN/RN program with at least 80 hours, are acceptable paths.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required or preferred.
• CPR/BLS Certification required upon hire.
• CNA/EMT or CMA/RMA, or Medical Assistant program graduate, or currently enrolled in LPN/RN program with at least 80 hours.

Responsibilities

• Document patient data in EMR per RHS standards and regulatory requirements.
• Follow plan of care and perform treatments/procedures competently under RN supervision.
• Maintain clean, safe and orderly patient environment; manage equipment and supplies.
• Assist with admissions, discharges, or transfers as directed by charge nurse.

We do not accept PCA certified individuals.*Mid Shift - 10 AM - 10 PMOverviewWorks under the supervision of Registered Nurse, Nurse Manager/Director in personal care of the patients and their environment (including those needing special precautions) and performs specified functions in tasks where there is validated competency including: simple wound care (i.e. cleaning of abrasions/laceration), EKGs, peripheral INT removal, basic phlebotomy, and extremity splinting. In addition, this position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served in assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and provide the care needed as described according to the departmental policy and procedure. Promotes and maintains safe work environment for staff as well as our customers, incorporating national patient safety initiatives.What you will doDemonstrates understanding and knowledge of the technology systems necessary for patient data collection into EMR.Demonstrates the ability to follow plan of care to include performing treatments and procedures competently/independently under direction of RN. This may include the following procedures dependent upon unit/facility competency requirements vital signs, ice application, compresses, EKGs, drawing blood, specimen collection, etc.Accurately completes all required clinical and quality documentation consistently per RHS standards and regulatory requirements.Demonstrates accountability for ensuring availability of resources (equipment, instruments, supplies) necessary to ensure positive patient outcomes.
