Job summary

Riverside Walter Reed Hospital in Gloucester, VA seeks a Patient Care Assistant to support nursing care under RN guidance. You will perform EKGs, phlebotomy, wound care, and vital signs while maintaining patient safety and documentation in the EMR.

Certification requirements include CPR/BLS, with CNA/EMT-B or CMA/RMA options or enrollment in an LPN/RN program. Responsibilities include ensuring a clean, safe environment, stocking supplies, and assisting with admissions, discharges, and transfers

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; CNA/EMT-B/CMA-RMA or in-progress LPN/RN program acceptable.
• CPR/BLS certification required upon hire.
• Healthcare experience preferred; hospital setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates understanding of patient data collection into EMR and follows plan of care under RN supervision.
• Performs treatments/procedures competently: vital signs, EKGs, phlebotomy, specimen collection, and wound care as competency allows.
• Maintains clean, safe patient environment; stocks supplies and ensures equipment readiness.
• Assists with admit, discharge, or transfer under charge nurse direction; supports patient flow.

We do not accept PCA certified individuals.*OverviewWorks under the supervision of Registered Nurse, Nurse Manager/Director in personal care of the patients and their environment (including those needing special precautions) and performs specified functions in tasks where there is validated competency including: simple wound care (i.e. cleaning of abrasions/laceration), EKGs, peripheral INT removal, basic phlebotomy, and extremity splinting. In addition, this position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served in assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and provide the care needed as described according to the departmental policy and procedure. Promotes and maintains safe work environment for staff as well as our customers, incorporating national patient safety initiatives.What you will doDemonstrates understanding and knowledge of the technology systems necessary for patient data collection into EMR.Demonstrates the ability to follow plan of care to include performing treatments and procedures competently/independently under direction of RN. This may include the following procedures dependent upon unit/facility competency requirements vital signs, ice application, compresses, EKGs, drawing blood, specimen collection, etc.Accurately completes all required clinical and quality documentation consistently per RHS standards and regulatory requirements.Demonstrates accountability for ensuring availability of resources (equipment, instruments, supplies) necessary to ensure positive patient outcomes.
