Job Summary

As the first point of contact for patients and visitors to Coast Plaza Hospital, the PBX Operator plays an important role in guiding patients through the admissions process, conducting eligibility screening, and preparing patient information for clinical departments. Responsibilities include obtaining demographic, insurance, and financial information, explaining all required forms, obtaining signatures, verifying insurance eligibility and benefits, ensuring notifications and authorizations are completed timely, collecting and posting payments, and contributing to department operations and communication, all while upholding the standards of AIDET patient communication.

Essential Functions

  • Greet patients, visitors, and caregivers upon arrival.
  • Collect and verify patient information, including demographics and insurance details.
  • Schedule appointments and respond to inquiries with compassion and professionalism.
  • Collect payments and identify outstanding balances.
  • Update patient records and handle communications via phone, mail, or email.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
  • Participate in training and may assist in other hospital areas as needed.

  • Use scripting and AIDET principles to ensure consistent communication.
