Medasource is seeking a Coding Educator to develop and deliver education programs that promote coding accuracy and regulatory compliance within professional billing operations.
You will audit coding quality, identify documentation and coding trends, and design targeted education for staff and providers, partnering with coding leadership to resolve discrepancies and drive process improvements.
The Coding Educator is responsible for developing and delivering coding education programs that promote coding accuracy, regulatory compliance, and revenue integrity within professional billing operations. This role conducts coding audits and quality reviews to evaluate coding accuracy, identify documentation and coding trends, and determine targeted educational opportunities for coding staff and providers. Audit findings, regulatory updates, and payer policy changes are used to develop and deliver training initiatives that improve coding quality, documentation practices, and overall coding performance. The Coding Educator partners with coding leadership and operational teams to resolve coding discrepancies, support continuous process improvement, and ensure compliance with federal, state, payer, and organizational coding guidelines.
Develop and deliver coding education and training programs for coding staff based on audit findings, identified learning needs, regulatory updates, and operational priorities.
Conduct coding quality reviews and audits to evaluate coding accuracy, identify documentation and coding opportunities, and ensure compliance with coding guidelines and payer requirements.
Provide ongoing education, coaching, and feedback to coding professionals to support accurate code assignment and resolution of complex coding scenarios.
Develop, maintain, and update educational materials, including training manuals, presentations, job aids, reference guides, and other learning resources.
Monitor changes to ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, CMS regulations, and commercial payer policies, incorporating updates into training programs and educational content.
Analyze audit results, coding metrics, and quality trends to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and targeted education.
Collaborate with coding leadership, compliance, clinical documentation, and revenue cycle teams to promote consistent coding practices and support organizational goals.
Assist with onboarding and mentoring new coding staff as needed.
Maintain compliance with all applicable federal, state, payer, and organizational coding and documentation standards.
Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management, Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or a related field preferred.
Relevant education and professional experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Five (5) or more years of professional medical coding experience, including experience in coding education, training, auditing, quality review, or coding compliance.
Current CPC (Certified Professional Coder), CCS-P (Certified Coding Specialist - Physician), or another nationally recognized coding certification required.
Advanced knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS Level II, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and professional fee coding guidelines.
Strong understanding of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer reimbursement methodologies, coding compliance, and regulatory requirements.
Experience developing and delivering coding education programs, training materials, and documentation improvement initiatives.
Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
Proficiency with electronic health records (EHRs), encoder software, and Microsoft Office applications.
