California State University is seeking a Payroll Technician I for an Emergency Hire position to support Payroll Services. The role involves managing payroll processes, providing customer service, and ensuring accurate payroll documentation. This temporary position may last from a few days up to 6 months, with potential for extension. Candidates should have experience in HR or payroll and strong communication skills.
Job Summary
This is an Emergency Hire position to support Payroll Services. Emergency appointments are used to cover peak workload periods, extended absences, or vacant positions during recruitment.
Under immediate supervision of the Supervisor, Payroll Services, this position follows general instructions and well-defined procedures to perform standardized payroll and personnel transactions for specific actions, employee categories, or campus departments.
Classification: Payroll Technician I
Experience in HR, Payroll, financial, or related administrative responsibilities. Ability to follow directions, learn responsibilities, and apply policies according to CSU guidelines. Accurate data entry skills, proficiency with PJMS and PeopleSoft HR systems, and ability to review numerical records for errors. Capable of working under pressure, meeting deadlines, performing complex arithmetic, and communicating effectively with a diverse campus community. Knowledge of office procedures and policies, and adherence to safety, civility, and non-discrimination policies.
Strong English grammar, spelling, and punctuation skills are required.
Equivalent to one year of experience in processing payroll/personnel documents.
CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,680 - $5,961 per month.
This is a temporary, emergency hire appointment, lasting from a few days up to 6 months, with potential extension or cancellation at any time.
