Job summary

Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 is seeking a payroll-focused professional to support the finance team. The role involves processing payroll for district staff, verifying records, and entering data accurately in our systems.

You will collaborate with administrators, maintain sick leave and vacation records, and ensure timely payments while protecting confidentiality. Prior payroll experience and Excel proficiency are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in paying custodians, maintenance, office secretaries, psychologists, teachers, paraprofessionals, internal & external subs, and cafeteria personnel in a confidential and professional manner.
  • Responsible for developing a knowledge of applicable policies and computer software and using it in the processing of payroll.
  • Prepare and enter into the computer payroll data for paying new or terminating employees, make necessary changes, and assist the other payroll specialists as directed.
  • Assist in obtaining records of new or terminating employees for processing.
  • Process required changes in payroll records such as address, social security number, deductions, etc.
  • File payroll data in orderly and timely manner.
  • Verify, check and prepare non-salaried employees' labor and contracts for data entry. Process salaried employees pay.
  • Enter data for semi-monthly payroll processing.
  • Assist in the verification of data entry.
  • Assist with the stuffing and sorting of checks and direct deposit notices.
  • Answer inquiries regarding pay and prepare reports or checks as required.
  • Assist in maintaining sick leave and vacation records for all employees.
  • Assist with the processing of records with IMRF.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Finance or Associate Superintendent for Business Services.
  • Assist in processing payroll deduction payments for mailing.

Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 serves nearly 13,000 students in preschool throughgrade 12 and is located halfway between Chicago, Illinois and Milwaukee, Wisconsin on the shores ofLake Michigan. The District has one early learning center, 15 elementary schools, five middle schools and ahigh school program divided between two 9– 12thgrade campuses. The District encompasses portions ofWaukegan, Beach Park and Park City.

Essential Duties:

Directly responsible to the Director of Finance. Indirectly responsible to the Associate Superintendent for Business Services.

General Duties:
