Job description

TurnPoint Search is partnering with a global fund to hire a detail-oriented and highly skilled Payroll Specialist. The ideal candidate will have exceptional communication skills, 2–5 years of payroll experience, and a proven ability to manage high-volume, multi-state payrolls with precision and efficiency. This role requires exceptional Excel skills, Workday expertise, and experience in payroll tax compliance.

Responsibilities:

  • Process accurate and timely payroll for a large, multi-state employee population, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Manage all aspects of payroll data entry and validation within Workday, including new hires, terminations, transfers, and compensation changes.
  • Administer expatriate payroll processes, including tax equalization, allowances, and other specialized considerations.
  • Reconcile payroll reports and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and review payroll-related journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
  • Ensure accurate calculation and remittance of payroll taxes and other statutory deductions.
  • Partner with HR, Finance, and Benefits teams to ensure payroll accuracy and resolve employee inquiries.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and assist with internal and external payroll audits.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required, and a CPA or CPP strongly preferred.
  • 2–5 years of hands-on payroll experience in a high-volume, multi-state environment.
  • Proficiency in Workday payroll systems required.
  • Advanced Excel skills required, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, nested formulas, and data analysis tools.
  • Broad understanding of payroll tax laws, compliance requirements, and reporting.
  • Experience with expatriate payroll processes preferred but not required.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.

***Applicants must be open to sitting fully remote within the United States or located in the New York Tri-State area.

Position pays a base salary range of $80,000 - $150,000 per year, commensurate with location, experience, and skill level. There is also the potential for an annual bonus.
