Job summary

Johnson Brothers is seeking a Payroll Specialist to support accurate, timely payroll processing for a multi-state workforce. You will audit timekeeping records, reconcile data, administer garnishments, and assist with year-end activities, partnering closely with Human Resources and Finance to ensure regulatory compliance and exceptional service.

Using Workday, you will generate reports, review payroll cycles, and respond to employee inquiries while maintaining confidentiality.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree preferred in Accounting, Finance, HR, Business Admin, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years payroll processing experience; multi-state experience preferred.
  • Experience with payroll systems and reporting tools; Workday experience preferred.
  • Experience reviewing timekeeping records, payroll audits, and reconciliation processes.
  • Knowledge of weekly and bi-weekly payroll processing practices.
  • Knowledge of payroll tax regulations, filings, and reconciliation processes.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Office applications

Responsibilities

  • Process payroll transactions accurately and timely for all employees.
  • Review employee time sheets and audit timekeeping records for accuracy and policy compliance.
  • Generate, review, and analyze payroll-related reports in Workday.
  • Audit payroll transactions and processes to identify, investigate, and resolve discrepancies.
  • Support processing and validation of weekly and bi-weekly payroll cycles.
  • Partner with Human Resources on payroll activities, including leave, benefits, and time-tracking audits.
  • Manage wage attachments and garnishments, including child support orders, tax levies, agency correspondence, system setup, and communications.
  • Monitor and respond to payroll inbox inquiries with timely, professional support.
  • Assist with year-end payroll activities including W-2s, reconciliations, audits, and regulatory reporting.
  • Reconcile payroll taxes and assist with tax filings and related audits.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations and company policies.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees, managers, and business partners.
  • Assist with State Agency tax notices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The Payroll Specialist is responsible for supporting accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing for a multi-state workforce. This role performs payroll audits, reviews timekeeping records, reconciles payroll data, administers garnishments, and assists with payroll tax and year-end activities. The Payroll Specialist partners closely with Human Resources, Finance, managers, and employees to ensure payroll accuracy, regulatory compliance, and exceptional customer service.

Job Description:

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications

The expected pay range for this role is $50,000 - $70,000.

Pay is based on several factors including, but not limited to, labor markets, education, candidate experience, certifications, etc .
