About Our Client

A prestigious financial services firm headquartered in New York City is seeking an experienced and polished Payroll Manager to lead their payroll function across the U.S. and Canada. This is a strategic role and will oversee all aspects of payroll tax reporting, compliance, filings, and audits while managing a small, high-performing team.

$120k-$130k + bonus
4 days a week onsite in Manhattan (downtown)

Job Description



  • Oversee all aspects of payroll tax compliance for U.S. (W-2) and Canadian (T4) employees


  • Ensure timely and accurate federal, state, and local payroll tax filings and payments


  • Lead the year-end tax process, including reconciliation and submission of W-2s and T4s


  • Manage and mentor a team of two, providing day-to-day oversight, guidance, and development


  • Serve as the subject matter expert on all payroll tax matters, including regulatory changes and audit preparation


  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Payroll, HR, Finance, and external vendors to ensure data accuracy and compliance


  • Own the payroll tax functionality in Workday and continuously optimize processes for efficiency and accuracy


  • Respond to tax agency notices, audits, and inquiries in a timely and professional manner


  • Maintain strong internal controls and documentation to support compliance standards

The Successful Applicant



  • 8-10+ years of payroll tax compliance experience in a complex, multi-jurisdictional environment


  • Prior management experience is strongly preferred


  • Workday experience is required


  • Deep knowledge of both U.S. and Canadian payroll tax regulations and reporting requirements (W-2s, T4s)


  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills


  • Exceptional communication skills and professional presence-must be comfortable liaising with senior leadership


  • High degree of discretion and professionalism in handling confidential data


  • Bachelor's degree preferred; CPP designation a plus
