Job summary

Qualifications

  • 8–10 years of multi-state and multi-entity payroll processing experience.
  • 8–10 years of progressive payroll management experience.
  • 5 years of fast-paced customer experience.
  • Experience with various payroll systems and implementation.
  • Experience in a shared service environment and solid understanding of payroll cycles.
  • Technical writing experience in drafting legally compliant pay plans.
  • Knowledge of labor laws, rules & regulations.
  • Ability to work with accounting to streamline payroll calculations and communication.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Valid driver’s license without restrictions.

Role Description

The Payroll Manager is responsible for leading the organization's payroll function, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing across multiple dealership and service locations and other affiliates. This position is the subject matter expert and escalation point to resolve issues and continuously looks for improvements in payroll processes and designs and implementation of initiatives.The manager will optimize the contributions of the team through coaching, counseling, motivating, and support implementing workable solutions to business issues with support from management.

The Payroll Manager partners closely with Human Resources, Accounting, Operations, and Leadership to continuously improve payroll processes, maintain compliance, and deliver exceptional customer service to employees.

  • Manage end-to-end payroll processing for multiple locations across several states.
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of all payrolls, currently weekly, bi-weekly, and semi-monthly payrolls.
  • Oversee l for:Flag-rate technicians, sales commissions, bonuses, incentive programs, hourly employees and salaried employees
  • Interpret day-to-day business objectives and execution of those objectives.
  • Create cross-training of the payroll department to ensure business continuity.
  • Hiring, training, motivating, and coaching employees and ensuring they provide attentive, efficient service to customers.
  • Manage the payroll team and fill in as needed and prepare work schedules to ensure appropriate coverage including monitoring workloads and development of others.
  • Assists in and support in creating annual team objectives and goals for the payroll team.
  • Resolving concerns or complaints from employees or management related to payroll.
  • Prepare, distribute, and maintain dealership pay plans in the appropriate database based on guidelines of position.This includes working with leadership and management to ensure pay plan standardization, regulation, and compliance.
  • Provide guidance and share knowledge with colleagues/team members relating to payroll, compliance, FLSA and State, wage and hour regulations.
  • Escalate potential payroll or legal concerns to the appropriate level of management.
  • Defines and evaluates payroll processes and procedures to ensure accurate pay to our employees.
  • Identify process improvement initiatives and define standards for new processes.
  • Review and research payroll errors and communicate to management on how to address and seek appropriate approval.
  • Communicate actively with Accounting, HR, and Operations.
  • Oversee audit requests, tax reconciliation, year-end, and W-2 processes.
  • Ensure compliance with wage garnishment, wage levies and child support regulations.
  • Uses personal device to provide an additional layer of security for company network and site access through multi-factor authentication.
  • Maintain advanced knowledge of payroll and HRIS systems to optimize utilization.
  • Prepare monthly compensation reporting for managers and executive team.
  • Special projects, ad hoc reporting, and additional duties as necessary and assigned.
  • Plays integral part in evaluating new payroll systems as alternatives to current payroll provider.
Minimum Qualifications

The requirements listed below are the minimum degrees, certifications, knowledge, skill, and/or ability required of this position. 

  • Minimum of 8 to 10 years of multi-state and multi-entity payroll processing experience.
  • Minimum of 8 to 10 years of progressive payroll management experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of fast-paced customer experience.
  • Experience with various payroll systems and implementation.
  • Experience in a shared service environment and solid understanding of Payroll and Business cycles.
  • Technical writing experience in drafting legally compliant pay plans.
  • Knowledge of labor laws, rules & regulations.
  • Ability to work with accounting to streamline payroll calculations and communication.
  • Excellent computer skills, competent in all Microsoft Office applications, with emphasis on Excel
  • Valid driver’s license without restrictions that affects your ability to operate company owned vehicle(s) and ability to maintain a clean driving record.

Preferred
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation through PayrollOrg.
  • Automotive dealership payroll experience.
