Cassia is hiring a Payroll Manager in Edina, MN. This is a full-time role leading payroll operations for 5,000+ employees using UKG, with supervision of six payroll staff.

The position starts on-site in Edina for 5 days a week for six months, with a potential remote option to work 2 days weekly thereafter. Bachelor's degree preferred; CPP credential and multi-state payroll experience highly valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or HR preferred.
• CPP credential preferred for advanced payroll practices.
• 3–5 years of high-volume, multi-state payroll experience.
• Supervisory experience leading payroll staff.
• Proficiency with UKG Pro or similar payroll systems.
• Knowledge of U.S. wage/hour laws, garnishments and payroll tax compliance.

Responsibilities

• Lead bi-weekly payroll processing for 5,000+ employees across entities.
• Supervise, coach, and evaluate six payroll staff.
• Ensure compliance with federal/state/local payroll laws and filings.
• Develop and maintain payroll procedures and controls.
• Perform GL payroll entries, reconciliations, and year-end work.
• Set up new companies/structures in the payroll system.
• Conduct internal audits and resolve discrepancies.
• Evaluate policies and drive system/process improvements.
• Resolve complex payroll inquiries with HR and Finance.

Job description

Cassia, a nonprofit, faith-based affiliation between Augustana Care and Elim Care, is seeking a Payroll Manager to join our collaborative Finance team at our corporate office in Edina, MN. In this vital role, you will lead and coordinate payroll operations for our organization of 5,000+ employees utilizing UKG payroll software. You’ll supervise and mentor six Payroll Staff employees, ensure compliance with all payroll-related regulations, and play a key role in employee experience and organizational efficiency. Position Type: Full-Time, benefits eligible position.

Wage Range: $90,000 - $115,000 annually depending on experience

Location: 7171 Ohms Lane, Edina, MN 55439. Position will be on-site in Edina, MN for 5 days a week for the first 6 months. After successfully completing duties independently, there is an option to work remotely 2 days a week.

Payroll Manager Responsibilities:

• Manage all aspects of bi-weekly payroll processing for 5,000+ employees across multiple legal entities using UKG payroll software
• Supervise, coach, and evaluate six payroll staff; delegate and prioritize responsibilities for team success
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws, including tax filings and reconciliations
• Develop and maintain procedures that meet internal/external requirements
• Perform general ledger payroll entries, reconciliations, and year-end processes
• Oversee setup of new companies and organizational structures in the payroll system
• Conduct internal audits, resolve discrepancies, and support audits and testing
• Provide leadership in evaluating payroll policy, software enhancements, and interdepartmental process improvements
• Handle complex payroll inquiries and partner with HR and Finance for issue resolution

Payroll Manager Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Human Resources (preferred)
• Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) credential (preferred)
• 3–5 years of high-volume, multi-state payroll experience required
• Prior experience supervising payroll teams required
• Proficiency in Excel (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, advanced formulas)
• Familiarity with UKG Pro or similar HCM payroll platforms
• Knowledge of U.S. wage & hour laws, garnishments, and payroll tax compliance
• Strong time management, analytical thinking, and customer service mindset
• Ability to work independently and maintain high accuracy under deadlines
