Job summary

Current HR is seeking a full-time Payroll Expert (Payroll Specialist) to coordinate daily payroll-related functions for clients, including processing payroll and advising on timekeeping issues. The role involves multi-state regulatory knowledge, payroll tax handling, and ensuring client satisfaction.

You will work closely with clients and internal partners to deliver accurate payroll services, maintain payroll records, and stay current with regulations through webinars and APA meetings.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of multi-state payroll experience (PEO/multi-tenant)
  • Hands-on PrismHR HRIS/payroll experience
  • Analytical and investigative aptitude for payroll issues
  • Excellent written and oral communication with high attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Self-starter, organized, and able to maintain confidentiality
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check
  • Bachelor's degree preferred; experience in lieu of degree considered; FPC/CPP preferred

POSITION

Current HR is seeking a full-time Payroll Expert (i.e. Payroll Specialist) to coordinate daily payroll-related functions, including the processing of client payroll and assisting clients with timekeeping issues. This position will assist with payroll tax handling and remittance. The Payroll Expert must be analytical, methodical, and organized with experience in payroll administration and a knowledge of multi-state payroll regulations.

This position is responsible for ensuring client satisfaction with payroll services and will work directly with clients to assist with their payroll processing needs. The Payroll Expert maintains ongoing relationships with client contacts and acts as a point of contact for payroll services. This individual will work collaboratively with internal partners to ensure quality customer service and payroll support.

WORK TYPE

This is preferably a hybrid position based in Fort Wright, KY. For purposes of team member interactions, the selected individual will be expected to report onsite to our Fort Wright office on Tuesday and Wednesday of each week but can work the remaining scheduled days remotely. A non-local candidate may be considered for remote work, based on experience and qualifications.

JOB DUTIES
  • Process payroll for clients including maintenance of child support garnishments, benefit contributions, payroll taxes, and other deductions as necessary.
  • Assist clients with processing of payroll changes (i.e. new hires, terminations, raises).
  • Ensure timely and accurate entry of data pertaining to individual employee payroll records.
  • Keep up to date on all federal, state, and local regulations through continual self-driven research, as well as attending webinars and APA meetings.
  • Prepare occasional reports for employee benefit vendors including workers’ compensation, 401(k), etc.
  • Coordinate problems regarding payroll discrepancies with clients and Payroll Director.
  • Provide prompt, courteous, and efficient customer service via phone or email to clients and employees who have questions regarding their pay, deductions, or the payroll process.
  • Assist clients with payroll processing issues, including communication of payroll information.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
  • Payroll Expertise: Advanced knowledge of payroll processing and intermediate understanding of multi-state payroll taxes.
  • Compliance & Regulations: Comprehensive understanding of wage and hour laws alongside complex regulatory standards.
  • Mathematical Aptitude: Strong grasp of foundational mathematical and accounting concepts required for accurate reporting.
  • Communication & Service: Exceptional customer service skills paired with excellent oral and written communication abilities.
  • Problem Solving & Ethics: Strong sense of ethics with excellent analytical skills and the confidence to independently problem-solve and recommend strategic solutions.
  • Adaptability & Multitasking: Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, continually changing business environment while managing, prioritizing, organizing, and multi-tasking under pressure.
  • Autonomy & Collaboration: Proven ability to work independently and follow assignments through to completion while maintaining the ability to work cooperatively in a team environment (both in and out of the office).
  • Technical Proficiency: Competency working in various payroll software platforms, with high proficiency in PrismHR and Microsoft Office.
  • Time Management & Comprehension: Excellent organization, strong time-management skills, and the ability to thoroughly read and comprehend complex regulatory and client instructions.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
  • PEO / Multi-Tenant Payroll Experience (Required): Minimum of 3+ years of experience handling multi-state payroll.
  • PrismHR Expertise: Hands-on knowledge of and experience with the PrismHR HRIS/payroll platform.
  • Analytical & Investigative Aptitude: Proven ability to analyze and investigate complex payroll issues to reach accurate resolutions.
  • Communication & Detail: Must have excellent written and oral communication skills with advanced attention to detail skills.
  • Software & Equipment: High level of competence in Microsoft Excel.
  • Work Ethic & Professionalism: Must be a self-starter, motivated, well-organized, and willing to learn new skills. Must adhere strictly to company confidentiality policies.
  • Pre-Employment Screening: Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening and be willing to submit to a criminal background check.
  • Education & Credentials: Bachelor’s degree preferred; minimum of an associate degree in business, accounting, finance, or other related field required. Consideration may be given to a candidate with experience in lieu of a degree. FPC or CPP designation preferred.
COMPENSATION

In the spirit of pay transparency, we can share that the pay range for this position is $50,000-55,000 annually, commensurate with experience. Please keep in mind that this range is the base pay only and does not consider other components that make up the total rewards package for the position. If you are hired, your overall compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience which may result in total compensation outside of this range.
