Job summary

Fire-Dex, Inc. Medina, OH is seeking a Payroll Accountant to ensure accurate payroll transactions, reconcile payroll GL accounts, and generate compliant reports. You will partner with HR, Operations, and external vendors to maintain data integrity and drive process improvements.

The role emphasizes attention to detail, confidentiality, and proactive problem solving in a fast-paced environment. Office-based with regular computer use and opportunities for professional development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
• 3+ years of experience in payroll accounting or related finance role.
• Strong knowledge of payroll taxes, deductions, accruals, and GL reconciliations.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, review, and post payroll-related journal entries.
• Reconcile payroll-related general ledger accounts (wages, taxes, benefits, deductions, accruals).
• Review payroll data and reports for accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
• Validate payroll files, deductions, tax information, and reporting.
• Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end payroll close processes.
• Maintain payroll records, reconciliations, schedules, and documentation.
• Collaborate with HR, Operations, and vendors to ensure data accuracy.
• Assist with payroll tax, benefit, retirement plan, garnishment, and deduction reconciliations.
• Support audits with payroll documentation and reports.
• Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes and controls.
• Handle confidential employee payroll information securely.
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Fire-Dex is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Payroll Accountant to join our Finance team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring payroll-related transactions are accurately recorded, reconciled, and reported while partnering closely with Human Resources, Operations, and external vendors.

What You’ll Do

• Prepare, review, and post payroll-related journal entries.
• Reconcile payroll-related general ledger accounts, including wages, taxes, benefits, deductions, and accruals.
• Review payroll data and reports to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
• Validate payroll files, deductions, tax information, and related reporting.

• Handle sensitive employee and payroll information with the highest level of confidentiality.
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered.
• 3+ years of experience in payroll accounting, accounting, payroll administration, or a related finance role.
• Strong knowledge of payroll accounting, payroll taxes, deductions, accruals, and general ledger reconciliations.
• Experience with payroll systems, HRIS platforms, and ERP/accounting software preferred.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to manage confidential information professionally and discreetly.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
