Job summary

Buildertrend is seeking an experienced Director, Payments and Risk Operations to lead end-to-end risk and operations for payments. You will own onboarding, underwriting, monitoring, disputes, and portfolio management while advancing AI-driven risk solutions.

You will build and scale a high-performing team, collaborate with Product, Engineering, Finance, and Compliance, and refine risk governance to support rapid growth and a superior customer experience.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressive experience leading payments risk within a vertical SaaS, marketplace, or fintech environment.
• 3+ years of hands-on risk across payment processing, ACH and check disbursements.
• Experience designing and implementing AI-powered decisioning systems, automation, or fraud platforms.
• Growth-oriented approach to risk management with data-driven decisions.
• Strong operational judgment building scalable risk functions and processes.
• Player-coach leadership style with ability to develop teams.
• Excellent communication across Product, Engineering, Finance, Compliance and other leaders.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end payments risk and operations strategy, including onboarding, underwriting, monitoring, disputes, servicing, and portfolio management.
• Build fraud prevention and loss mitigation with scalable processes and AI-assisted solutions.
• Evaluate and optimize AI-powered risk platforms to scale operations with good customer experience.
• Lead and develop a high-performing payments risk and operations team.
• Partner with Product and Engineering to embed risk controls in payment experiences and APIs.
• Develop risk analytics and reporting for real-time insights and portfolio visibility.
• Refine risk appetite, loss thresholds, and governance with Compliance and other stakeholders.
• Embrace AI as a tool to enhance work while ensuring quality.
