Coinbase is hiring a Payments Risk Analyst II to own risk controls for ACH payments and to lead fraud prevention efforts at scale. You will work with Product, Data Science, and Engineering to evolve risk strategies, ensuring a secure, efficient payments platform for millions of customers.

You will analyze fraud performance, measure financial impact of decisions, and communicate recommendations to leadership, while leveraging AI responsibly to enhance workflows and outcomes.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience in risk, fraud, or payments operations.

Payments Risk Analyst II

As a Payments Risk Analyst II on the Risk & Fraud team within the Consumer & Business group, you'll own the identification and mitigation of fraud risk across Coinbase's fiat payment rails, protecting the company's bottom line and millions of customers without degrading the user experience. You'll join a team that is modernizing its risk controls and building next-generation fraud prevention systems, giving you the opportunity to shape how we protect customers at scale across one of crypto's highest-volume retail platforms.

What you'll do:

• Own end-to-end risk controls for ACH payments, scaling fraud prevention processes to keep pace with business expansion.
• Drive detection and mitigation of fraudulent deposit activity by implementing targeting logic against bad actors and high-risk behavior.
• Lead quantitative analysis of fraud performance, measuring rule precision and recall, assessing the financial impact of decisions, and surfacing tradeoffs to leadership with clear, data-backed recommendations.
• Partner cross-functionally with Product, Growth, Data Science, Risk ML, and Engineering to develop and iterate on risk management strategies, including the transition from heuristic rules to model-driven and synchronous friction controls.
• Execute investigations into anomalous customer and transaction behavior, proactively identifying monitoring gaps and closing them before they become losses.

Required Skills and Experience:

• 4+ years of experience in risk, fraud, or payments operations, with at least 2 years focused on payments fraud prevention in a fintech, e-commerce, or financial services environment.
• 2+ years of hands‑on experience querying and analyzing large datasets using SQL, with the ability to independently scope and execute analytics projects end‑to‑end.
• Demonstrated experience using identity‑provider data and fraud‑detection tooling to implement and tune risk controls.
• Proven ability to measure the financial impact of fraud decisions and communicate findings to senior leadership and cross‑functional stakeholders.
• Demonstrated working knowledge of ACH payment processing and applicable NACHA rules.
• Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business‑ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Annual base salary range (excluding equity and bonus):

$135,320 — $159,200 USD
