Job summary

Helena Sand and Gravel is seeking a Paving Screed-Roller Operator to join our crew in Helena, MT. You'll operate paving screed/roller and other heavy equipment to lay asphalt, control compaction, and meet project specifications.

The role requires 3–6 years in heavy civil construction, strong leadership, and a commitment to safety. Overtime, outdoor work, and teamwork are expected in this varied position with CRH Montana materials.

Qualifications

• Must have a current and valid driver’s license.
• Demonstrated construction, asphalt paving, or related experience required.
• Ability to read and comprehend blueprints, site specifications, simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to perform basic math in all units of measure (whole numbers, fractions, decimals).
• Safety minded professional with good attendance and punctuality.
• Ability to work independently, without direct supervision.
• Willingness to work overtime and weekends/holidays as needed.
• Willingness to learn and perform a variety of job tasks.
• Ability to communicate well with supervisor, plant personnel, and other employees.
• Must pass pre-employment physical exam and pre-employment drug testing.
• Must have current authorization to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment safely and efficiently within designed parameters.
• Operate asphalt paver and/or screed to apply asphalt per plan and quality specifications.
• Responsible for proper compaction and smoothing of asphalt.
• Make adjustments for depth, grade and cross section via screed controls.
• Guide and direct dump trucks while backing up to machine hopper when operating paver.
• Perform minor servicing and maintenance or refer major problems to the supervisor.
• Keep machines cleaned and maintained.
• Travel to and from various locations.
• Assist labor crew including shoveling, raking and compacting asphalt materials.
• Routinely assist other members of the work force in different areas of production.
• Promptly communicate with paving crew on material flaws.
• Take action to avoid hazards or obstructions.
• Other tasks as assigned to meet business needs.

Wage:

$23.00-$35.50/hr DOE w/ potential for overtime.Work could include Davis Bacon Wages and Non-Davis Bacon Wages.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
