Job Summary

A Paving Roller Operator is responsible for operating asphalt and compaction equipment to compact asphalt, soil, gravel, and other paving materials during road construction and maintenance projects. The operator ensures smooth, even surfaces while following project specifications, safety standards, and quality requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate asphalt rollers and compaction equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Compact asphalt to achieve required density and surface smoothness.
  • Follow grade stakes, project specifications, and supervisor instructions.
  • Inspect equipment before and after use to ensure proper operation.
  • Perform routine maintenance, including checking fluid levels, greasing, and cleaning equipment.
  • Coordinate with paving crews to maintain proper rolling patterns and compaction timing.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous experience operating paving rollers or heavy construction equipment preferred.
  • Knowledge of asphalt paving and compaction techniques.
  • Ability to read and follow construction plans and project specifications.
  • Valid driver's license; CDL may be preferred depending on employer requirements.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and night shifts as required.

Physical Requirements

  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and dust.
  • Ability to work long hours and stand or walk on uneven terrain as needed.
  • Road construction sites, highways, parking lots, airports, and commercial paving projects.
  • Exposure to moving equipment, loud noise, vibration, dust, and changing weather conditions.
  • Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, high-visibility clothing, and steel-toed boots.
