Job summary

Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. is seeking a safety-sensitive, hourly paving helper/flagger in Pennsylvania to support the paving crew and direct trucks around the worksite.

This position requires vigilance around utilities and equipment and follows PennDOT flagger training requirements. The role involves pre-paving prep, material handling, traffic control setup, and coordination with the paver operator. Night shifts and weekend work may be required, with potential for additional assignments based on

Qualifications

• Must successfully complete PennDOT Flagger Training.
• Must have a valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
• Prefer Class B CDL with Hazmat and tanker endorsements.

Responsibilities

• Collect and distribute weight tickets to customer and Foreman; record/scan truck job arrival and departure times.
• Guide/direct trucks into paver without contact, ensuring area is clear and utilities are navigated safely.
• Ensure air ride suspension trucks dump air before raising bed; maintain safe truck-paver alignment.
• Direct discharge of load into paver at steady pace; communicate with operator and driver.
• Maintain at least 25% asphalt material in the paver hopper; avoid complete emptying.
• Prepare surface by milling, shoveling, and sweeping; inspect for hazards with Foreman.
• Walk beside paver behind screed to correct mat imperfections using hand tools.
• Set up/tear down traffic control devices; operate company vehicle as needed.
• Relieve flaggers; work additional hours including night shifts, Saturdays, Sundays.
• Operate or be trained to operate heavy equipment as assigned.
