Job summary

The Langham Chicago seeks a dedicated food and beverage service professional to ensure a high level of guest service in our dining outlets. Responsibilities include table set-ups, serving food and beverages, and communicating effectively with team members. Prior experience in Food and Beverage is preferred, along with a high school diploma or equivalent.

Job description

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION

To provide friendly, courteous and professional service to guests and to assist and support service colleagues in the hotel’s food and beverage outlets including but not limited to the Pavilion Restaurant while maintaining high level of service as per Langham Hospitality Group and Forbes standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND JOB DUTIES
  • Ensure proper set-ups for all tables in assigned sections with attention to details.
  • Inspect linen, silver, china and other table items for cleanliness and appearance.
  • Serve food, coffee, water and other beverages to customers as required by guests.
  • Cooperate closely with other members of the outlet team including servers, porters and kitchen associates.
  • Run food to tables and clearly explain the composition of each dish in details with proper language.
  • Assist bartenders with bar set up and equipment/product replenishment.
  • Clear and reset tables as needed.
  • Communicate with restaurant management daily.
  • Clean restaurant area during and after meal periods.
  • Positive team player with the ability to get larger tasks completed.
  • Acquire a working knowledge of the hotel, in house facilities and local information to respond to customer inquiries about the area.
  • Follow health and safety procedures.
  • Work well in a team atmosphere and independently.
  • Perform general cleaning tasks using standard hotel cleaning products as assigned by your supervisor to adhere to health standards.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested e.g., special guest requests.
  • Must adhere to All State, Federal and Corporate liquor regulations pertaining to serving alcoholic beverages to minors and intoxicated guests to ensure all laws are being followed.
  • Other duties as assigned such as assisting security with disorderly guests.
  • Report duty as scheduled by direct supervisor according to operating hours.
  • Provide maximum levels of guest service while maintaining Langham Hospitality Group standards.
  • Be fully versed in all Forbes service standards.
  • Other duties as assigned by direct supervisor.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Activities include standing, reaching, bending, pushing, pulling, handling, grasping, lifting, carrying, seeing, hearing, talking, walking. Considerable repetitive motion of hands and wrists as pertaining to pouring of drinks from bottles and shaking with shakers.
  • Requires the ability to lift and carry object weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Standing for 90% of work shift is required.
SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED
  • Must have basic knowledge of food and beverages preparation.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity in hands to use a knife to make garnish, pick up glassware and bottles, scoop ice, mix drinks, and reach overhead to retrieve stock.
  • Ability to read, speak and understand the English language in order to communicate with guests and other staff members.
  • Ability to remember, recite and promote a variety of menu items.
  • Ability to work stand and work for long periods of time.
  • Ability to operate beverage equipment: coffeemaker, iced tea machine, etc.
EDUCATION REQUIRED

Any combination of education, training or experience equivalent to graduation from high school or any other combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. High school diploma preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Prior Food and Beverage experience required.

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES

Ability to obtain any government required license or certificate.

SALARY RANGE

$11.93-$14.91/hour, plus discretionary gratuities
